About
Verdi’s Requiem is probably the most famous major choral work written after Mozart’s Requiem. It was composed in 1874 in memory of the poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni, whom Verdi greatly admired and who had died the previous year. The Requiem is renowned for its dramatic, operatic style, unsuitable for liturgical use but fabulously popular as a concert piece. It is especially known for the thunderous double-chorus number “Dies irae,” evoking a fiery, awe-inspiring vision of the Last Judgment.
One of the most celebrated choral works in the Classical repertoire, this is a concert not to be missed!
Running time: 2 hours including one intermission
