About

Join us this fall for Barnes Create & Connect, our workshop series designed to support individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners through meaningful experiences with art and creative expression. Today's theme is Weaving Worlds and Stories. What can colors, shapes, and symbols tell us about the world around us? Explore textiles from our Native art collection and learn about the meanings they may hold. Then, experiment with patternmaking through guided weaving and conversation.

Presented in partnership with the Parkinson Council, Barnes Create & Connect focuses on connection between participants, with works of art, and through shared moments of reflection and making.

Each themed session begins at the Barnes, where staff members guide participants through slow-looking exercises, moments of mindfulness, and conversations about selected works. These guided engagements are followed by a hands-on art-making experience led by a teaching artist. Together, staff and participants create a welcoming and supportive space that honors each individual’s pace, perspective, and presence. No prior experience with art is necessary, just an openness to explore, create, and learn.

Workshops take place on select Saturdays from August through October. Light snacks and beverages will be provided. Space is limited, and registration is required.
