About
Founded in 1979 by pianist-conductor Peter Nero, The Philly Pops became a long-running pops orchestra known for orchestral arrangements of Broadway, film, jazz, and popular repertoire and was designated the official pops orchestra of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1999. The organization experienced major financial and governance disruptions in the early 2020s; musicians and new leadership subsequently reorganized and reclaimed the Philly Pops name to relaunch the ensemble under new artistic direction.
