BIOGRAPHY The Delfonics caught the rising tide of R&B and pop music at just the right time in the late 1960’s when young male groups were coming into their own. The Delfonics style of song and dance steps caught the world by storm as a top attraction in concerts, college campuses and The Apollo Theater in New York. The motivating force of the group is William (Poogie) Hart who was inspired by the groups Frankie Lyman and The Teenagers, Little Anthony and The Imperials, The Temptations and Gladys Knights And The Pips. Background singers that have performed with William Hart include Richie Daniels, Bruce Peterson, Major Harris, Wilbert Hart, Freddy Ingleton, Randy Cain and Dr. Salaam Love. His first song to be recorded was “Pretty Little Girl In The Yellow Dress.” The song that put The Delfonics name in the Philadelphia area was “He Doesn’t Really Love You” which became an instant hit. The next song that was released ”You’ve Been Untrue” also an instant hit in Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. written by William Hart. ” William’s voice is one of the most recognized and most imitated voices in the music world today. “La La Means I Love You” became an instant hit peaking at #2 on Billboards top 100. The Delfonics continued to release hit songs written by William Hart, arranged by Thom Bell and William Hart including “You Get Yours I’ll Get Mine” “Break Your Promise” “I’m Sorry” and “The Delfonics Theme” all reached Billboard’s top ten. “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind This Time” an overnight hit and #1 on the Billboard top 100 won a Grammy for the best R&B song of 1970. The Delfonics made the charts with their hit songs, “For The Love I Give To You” Ready Or Not Here I Come,” I Try Over And Over Again”, “Trying To Make A Fool Of Me”, “You’re Gone”, “Somebody Loves You”. The Delfonics had 18 songs that reached the Billboards top 20. The Delfonics hit songs have continuously been covered over the years by Aretha Franklin, Regina Bell, New Kids on the Block, Swingout Sisters, Manhattan Transfer, Silk, Bette Midler, Prince, The Jackson 5, Angela Bofill, The Fugees, Patti Labelle, Grover Washington Jr. and other well known artist. The Delfonics music has played in numerous movies and TV shows, The Five Heart Beats, Crooklyn, John Q, The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh, Family Man, Queen’s Logic, Five Heart Beats and The Golden Globe nominated Jacme Brown. And most recent, Carlitto’s Way, The Sopranos, Monday Night Football, Girlfriends, Sex in the City, Jackie Brown, All My Children, General Hospital and also numerous television commercials. William Hart is producing the music score for a new movie entitled “Magic Man” and will perform one of the movies sound tracks.
