Davy Knowles

In the few "whirlwind" years since playing his first US show at SXSW with his band BACK DOOR SLAM, DAVY KNOWLES has achieved more than most artists in an entire career -- and certainly fulfilled most of his early boy-hood dreams ! That first show, in March 2007, and the release of his debut album ROLL AWAY in June that year -- provided a spring board to over (450) gigs in the 4 years that followed -- a period that also took in the release of his Peter Frampton produced sophomore album Coming Up For Air, opening slots for Jeff Beck and Govt Mule, and a hugely successful 30 date romp around America supporting the Hagar/ Satriani inspired 'super group' CHICKENFOOT. Trips to Europe, the UK and Australia were squeezed in, and the "whirlwind" culminated with a tour performing with the legendary Rhythm Devils. I loved it all -- putting in my "10.000 hours" on the road -- it was such a great learning curve".... In between support slots and major festivals (including Bonaroo, Lollapalooza, and ACL (twice), his own shows at legendary rooms such as The Troubadour, Viper Room, Jerome's, Denver Fox, World Cafe, High Line (etc) , garnered great reviews. At radio, tracks such as COME HOME, TEAR DOWN THE WALLS, COMING UP FOR AIR and TASTE OF DANGER (a duet with Jonatha Brooke) were heavily rotated. He was invited to play The World Cafe several times, and TV appearances included Jimmy Kimmel, CBS morning show ...... America became his new home. A "Live from Melbourne" cd -- and a DVD of his "homecoming" concert in Douglas, Isle of Man, were also released through this period -- but after 4 years of relentless attention grabbing touring, playing his beloved blues, Davy was keen to take his foot off the gas a little and spend some time exploring new ideas... Davy explains..... ...I began to realize that I'd been working so hard I'd had no real time to find myself, and perhaps I had become the sum of my early influences. That's not surprising or unusual -- and of course I was thrilled to be following in the steps of my musical heroes such as Gallagher, Mayall, Clapton and Knopfler - who's music inspired my dreams when I was growing up in the Isle of man. America was like a calling for me...I was so lucky to get the chance to come and play, and I took it with both hands, but lately I increasingly felt I needed to step off the roller coaster and explore, try to find a bit more of myself in my music. Davy has been recording new material in Northern England with co-writer producer Steve Chrisanthou* (Corrine Bailie Rae) Davy’s love of Blues and Americana will still be obvious in the new recordings, but the envelope will be pushed. We are all excited for the next phase of his career and Davy looks forward to hitting the road again soon.
