Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff in 1935–36 using 24 medieval poems from the manuscript collection known as the Carmina Burana. It premiered at the Oper Frankfurt on 8 June 1937, and its opening chorus "O Fortuna" has become one of the most widely recognized excerpts of 20th-century classical music.
